La RSE : capitaliste ou socialiste ?

Bonjour à nos lectrices et nos lecteurs, cet article vous intéressera sans doute : "Corporate Social Responsibility – Whose Ideology is it? Is it that of Capitalists or Socialists?" (SAMUEL O. IDOWU, London Metropolitan University).

The field of corporate social responsibility appears to have been embraced by modern corporate entities of all shapes and forms. Advocates of the field are too eager to argue that corporations which are perceived by society to be socially responsible are likely to derive enormous benefits from being so. They argue that all stakeholders whether primary or secondary would react positively to whatever those entities do or stand for. Everyone agrees that behaving responsibly on the part of corporate entities is an excellent idea, since both the entities in question and all their stakeholders will generally be positively affected as a result of this action. But whose ideology is CSR after all? A search of the literature has given no conclusive evidence as to whether CSR is a capitalists’ or socialists’ doctrine; in fact the literature is unusually silent in this respect. A careful look at the mainstream activities which are at the core of the field would suggest that CSR is probably a socialist doctrine. If it were so, then why are corporate entities in modern free capitalist economies preaching and practicing it? Why are multinational corporations from these capitalists’ states now exporting the ideology to countries which should have preached and practiced it long ago? Socialist ideologies we were made to believe are inconsistent with capitalists’ ideologies. Is this an exception to that believe? Or has the table now turned? These are a few of the questions which this study seeks to explore in order to find the source of CSR as practiced by capitalist corporations and more recently by some old socialists states of the 21st century. This study notes that CSR is a capitalist ideology ‘invented’ to strike a balance between the two extremes of old capitalism and socialism. This study suggests that CSR is a watered down approach to the traditional capitalism which modern corporations now realize has passed its ‘sell by date’.
